Chemistry Concept Inventory Pre-Assessment
Concerned about the appropriate placement of your students?
The goal of this pre-assessment is to identify students in your chemistry class that do not have the pre-requisite knowledge and skills to be successful in chemistry. Ideally, this assessment would be given within the first week of school to identify students who may have difficulty in chemistry. Question topics include: algebra, experimental design, data analysis, and vocabulary.
This assessment would work well with any college-prep level of chemistry. This assessment helps teachers to identify students who will most likely have difficulty throughout the school year and will allow students to reflect on whether chemistry is the appropriate placement given their current level of achievement. The questions within this pre-assessment are designed to indicate the type of thinking that is necessary to be successful in chemistry.
