AP Laboratory Investigation: The Calming Test Tube (Blue Glitter Lab)
This highly student-centered lab will help your students practice illustrating intermolecular forces on the particulate level as well utilize their knowledge of IMFs and solubility to explain the phenomenon. Setup and implementation is easy with my teacher prep guide!
CED LO Correlation:
- (3.1) Explain the relationship between the chemical structures of molecules and the relative strength of their intermolecular forces
- (3.2) Explain the relationship among the macroscopic properties of a substance, the particulate-level structure of the substance, and the interactions between these particles.
- (3.8) Using particulate models for mixtures represent interactions between components.
- (3.10) Explain the relationship between the solubility of ionic and molecular compounds in aqueous and nonaqueous solvents, and the intermolecular interactions between particles.
Materials your students will need:
- Test tubes (2)
- Test tube rack
- Rubber stopper
- Acetone
